Srikishan Sarda College, Hailakandi, was established on 18th September 1950. It is one of the premier institutions of higher education and providing quality education to the students of the district of Hailakandi and also the students from surrounding districts and neighbouring states as well. The college is situated at a very convenient place of Hailakandi with all sorts of transport facilities.


The donor of the land of the college was Late Pratap Chandra Nath and the founder Principal of the college was Late Sisir Kar Shastri. Initially the college was started with Arts Stream and it was affiliated to Gauhati University in the year 1956. The college started progressing by leaps and bounds and in course of tim e science stream was opened to cater to the needs of the students. Since its humble beginning, the college has been endeavouring hard to spread the light of higher education among the students and to lift the humanity from the bog and morass of ignorance. At present the college is equipped with Classrooms alongwith Smart Classroom, Science laboratories, Auditorium hall, Computer laboratories, Seminar hall, Central library, NSS., Sports Cell, Health Services, NCC and experienced faculty members.

The college is now affiliated to Assam University, Silchar, a Central University constituted under the Act XII of parliament in the year 1994. The College has been reaccredited as Grade ‘A’ with CGPA 3.12 by the NAAC in 2011.

The college has been provided with STAR COLLEGE Scheme by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), New Delhi. All the Science departments of the college are now supported by DBT under STAR COLLEGE Scheme. Moreover, Department of Science and Technology (DST) has extended its academic support to the science department of the college under its North East Special FIST programme.

Besides, funding agencies like UGC, RUSA, MSDP and Chief Ministers’ fund have granted necessary amount of fund for the academic and infrastructural development of the college.

The college started constructing new RCC building demolishing the old and worn out Assam type classrooms. Along with this construction work, we have also taken a keen interest to digitise our central library. Besides, as per the suggestion of NAAC, a language laboratory is going to be opened so as to develop the language skill of the students.


To improve the health and to develop the sense of unity, brotherhood and sportsmanship among the students, we are going to construct a stadium in the open field of the college under Khelo India National Programme, Ministry of Youth Affairs, Govt, of India.



The new academic session o f the college begins from August, after summer vacation. Application form fo r admission in different courses will be available online in the college website http://www.sscollegehkd.ac.in. Student can apply fo r different courses through this online portal of the college. A sum o f Rs 150/- (Rupees one hundredfifity) with an additional gateway charge will be collected through online transfer as application fees. The details prcodure for filling up the online form is available in the admission portal. It is advisible to read the guideline and prospectus carefully before proceeding with the online form fill up. Student Enuul address and mobile no will be mandfatory for online form submission. Admission to the college is made strictly on merit basis and as per Government Rerservation Policy.


For HS and TDC course, the final examinations will be held as per the schedules of the AHSEC and Assam University respectively. Other than the final examinations, the students are required to appear the sessional test, unit test, seminar etc. conducted by the college, failing which the students will be considered as disqualified for appearing in the final examination.


Students are entitled to “Travelling Concession” in Railways and Airways. They can apply for the same in proper forms during vacation from institution to destination & back.


There is a Students’ Aid Fund to provide aid to the needy students. The authority reserves the right to grant aid to student (s) whom the authority may deem it proper.


Star College Scheme has been initiated by DBT to support colleges and university department offering undergraduate education to improve science teaching. The programme aims to improve the skills of teachers by organising faculty training, unproved curriculam and emphasis on practical training to students by providing access to specialised infrastructure and consumables. Star College scheme has been divided into two catagories viz strengthening of support for undergraduate education and Star College Status. Criteria for selection as a “Star College” are very stringent and budget provision is double for colleges accorded star college status. So far 88 colleges have been supported under the strengthening support category. The support has strengthened physical infrastructure in laboratories, library, teaching aids and promoted networking with neighbouring institutes. Hands on training and project of day to day relevance have enhanced interest in students to pursue science courses at undergraduate level.

DBT granted STAR COLLEGE SCHEME to S. S. COLLEGE, Hailakand in the financial year 2013-14. All the science departments of our college are under the purview of the scheme. Our college performed various activities under Star College Scheme and also procured various scientific instruments, laboratory equipments, accessories, chemicals, glass wares, consumables, books etc. We have also organised workshops, invited lectures, Hands on trainings, Science Quiz Competition among the students of our college.


The first phase i.e strengthening phase of prestigious star college project was sanctioned in the year 2012 to this college by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi . It is boost to the science stream of the college to carryout different practical prescribed in the syllabus which were demonstrated earlier. Moreover, as part of star college activity, different eminent resource persons are invited in the college and the students of this localities are deriving the benefit of interaction with them.

Again the financial assistance from the DBT. Govt. of India under star college scheme provides a scope for the UG level science students to visit different research laboratory, situated in the country. On the other hand, this type of visit provides an opportunity to interact with different scientist working in different laboratories of national and international repute.

As part of star college acitivity, different science department organizes hands on training program and students from different science department can join these program as per their choice. By this type of activity, student get an opportunity to learn how to operate scientific instruments, on the other hand it provides a chance for the student to acquire inter disciplinary knowledge.

A number of books has been added to the departmental library under the financial support from DBT, sponsored star college, project. These books are made available to the student for their teaching learning activity. Again teachers are also consulting these for the up-gradation of their knowledge.

As part of star college activity, different science department strengthen its ties with neighbouring institute. Many student of the college can visit other nearby advanced institute for their needs even many students from other institute visits this institute to attend different lecture and training programme.
